Winter 2016 Season concludes with many new records set! Playoffs begin April 3rd

Wow what a finish to the Winter 2016 Season. White edged out Black to secure 2ndplace but the story of Week 9 does not end there.

Team Blue finished the season with 2 wins to complete a record-breaking 16-2 season.  Success at the draft table allowed members of Team Blue to sweep most of the awards this season, however the 16-2 record doesn’t do justice in explaining the tiki taka Barcelonan style of play that allowed them to finish +81 in goal differential.

Heading into the last games of the season, forward Michael Gagnon was looking for 9 points to reach the symbolic 100 point mark, a number we had yet to see in 10+ years of play in the league. In the end, 9 goals and 4 assists later, Mike Gagnon was 1st star of the week and ended the season with 50 goals and 54 assists setting a new points record at 104 points, as well as earning the Art Ross Trophy .

His play in the last 2 weeks allowed him to also secure the record for 54 assists and thus the Lady Byng Award.

With his 5.78 points/game, Mike Gagnon also came away with the Hart trophy for LEAGUE MVP.

Kevin Harney once again came away with the Norris Trophy with his 66 points.

The Rocket Richard trophy was truly an interesting story this year. This trophy should probably be renamed the Dario Cucinotta trophy as it has gone to Dario many times now, and was pretty much his after 8 weeks.  However Dario’s absence in week 8, coupled with a huge 10 goal week by Steve Pimentel in week 9, allowed the sophomore to steal the Rocket Richard trophy.  That’s right, Steve Pimentel in his 2ndseason with us is the Rocket Richard winner scoring 60 goals all season, and setting a new record for goals!!

Rookie Mike Petrocco goes home with 2 awards with his 59 points, winning both the Calder for rookie of the year, and the “Subway” award for most points by a sub.

Finally, Team Blue’s Alex Chau wins his first ever Vezina trophy finishing with an outstanding record of 13-1-0 and a GAA of 8.43 leading both in wins and in G.A.A.

Congrats to all the winners and runners-up. Full stats will be loaded shortly on the website.  The playoff schedule will also be loaded shortly.

We are back for 3 weeks of playoff hockey.  The playoffs are a WHOLE NEW SEASON. Since we adopted the new format 3 seasons ago, we have never seen the top 2 teams from the regular season make it to the final.
Will this be the year the top 2 seeds make it in the final? Or will JP Flood and Team Black rise to the challenge and up their game against Blue to finally beat them by 1 or 2 goals as opposed to lose by 1 or 2 goals? Or will Red’s top guns in Steve Pimentel and BJ Leber bring another 4th place team to the final as we’ve seen in the past 2 seasons?   ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!
